Jean-Marc Pontroué steps down as Panerai leader after 25 years with the Richemont Group
Jean-Marc Pontroué has announced his departure from his position as CEO of Panerai, marking the end of a 25-year career with the Richemont Group. In a post on social media, Pontroué bid farewell to the brand and its employees, expressing gratitude for the journey undertaken.
In his statement, the executive highlighted the privilege it has been to lead Panerai, highlighting the spirit of camaraderie and the relationships built over the years.
“It has been a blessing and a sincere privilege to enjoy each day of my time at Panerai. However, after 25 years with the Richemont Group, my time at the company is coming to an end.”
Jean-Marc Pontroué took over as Panerai CEO in 2018, following a successful stint at Montblanc and Roger Dubuis, also part of the Richemont group. Under his leadership, the brand has consolidated its identity and expanded its presence on the global market, strengthening its connection with luxury watch enthusiasts.
In the same statement, the now former CEO made a point of praising the Panerai team, its commercial partners and loyal customers, ensuring that he will continue to follow the brand's successes in the future.
“I take with me not only the skills and knowledge I have gained, but also the precious relationships and memories. I am excited about the future, but will always look back with fondness and gratitude.”
The announcement comes at a crucial time for Panerai as it prepares for Watches & Wonders, one of the world’s largest watchmaking fairs. Pontroué expressed confidence in the success of the event and the continued innovation and growth of the brand.
To date, the Richemont Group has not yet officially announced Jean-Marc Pontroué’s successor at the helm of Panerai.
Dear Colleague & Partner,
Confucius used to say that “if you have a job that you love, you would not have to work a single day of your life.” I have been a blessed and privileged person as I sincerely enjoyed every single day of my journey at Panerai. However, after 25 years in Richemont, my life in the group comes to an end...
It's a bittersweet moment as I say goodbye to 841 committed Panerai members, supportive trade partners, collaborative suppliers, loyal customers, inspiring Paneristis, and enthusiastic media communities from Switzerland, Italy & all the countries where we operate.
First and foremost, I want to express my deep gratitude to each of you who have individually contributed to my experiencing great moments in my different missions.
The memories we've created together, the challenges—especially during COVID—we've overcome, and the successes we've celebrated & shared together will always hold a special place in my heart.
But beyond the work, what I'll miss the most is this unique spirit of camaraderie and loyal friendship that we have built over the years. It's the support during tough times and the shared celebrations that have made this workplace feel like a second family to me.
As I move on to new adventures, please know that I take with me not just the skills and knowledge I've gained here but also the cherished relationships and memories. I'm excited about what the future holds, but I'll always look back on my time among you with fondness and gratitude.
You are all animated by a truly fighting spirit, and I have no doubt that all of you—from the media industry, trade partners, suppliers, colleagues at the Manufacture, our markets, and HQ—will continue to achieve great things. You're an exceptional group of individuals, and Panerai has this unique cocktail of communities which make this brand so special in our business.
It's been a great honor and an immense privilege to work with all of you, and I'd like to express my best wishes to each one of you. May you continue to reach new heights, overcome any obstacles that come your way, and find joy and fulfillment in your work.
Starting with the upcoming Watches & Wonders, which will be an incredible success supported by 12 months of preparation and exceptional innovations in Products, Marketing & Customer Experiences from the Panerai teams.
As I leave, I'm reminded of a quote that has guided me throughout my career:"Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened."I choose to smile today, knowing that our paths may diverge, but the impact you've had on my life will forever remain.
With my best personal regards,
Jean-Marc Pontroue
